High scoring order of the day in SLC Development team’s tour of UK

Sri Lanka Development XI skipper Nipun Dananjaya scored 150* and 81 in the drawn game against Surrey.


 

Sri Lanka Cricket Development team currently on a tour of England figured in their third high scoring drawn game on this occasion against Surrey at Guildford.

Their first two matches on the tour against Kent and Hampshire had also ended in draws.

A feature of the game against Surrey was the career best innings of 150* by former Sri Lanka U19 World Cup and present SLC Development skipper Nipun Dananjaya in the first innings of 372-9 declared which he followed up with another authoritative knock of 81 in the second

innings where he was joined by 20-year-old former St Anthony’s College, Wattala cricketer Avishka Tharindu who went onto complete a maiden first-class century (103* off 119 balls) before the match

petered into a draw.

Sri Lanka’s U19 World Cup captain Dunith Wellalage also made use of the match to produce his maiden five-wicket haul in first-class cricket returning figures of 5 for 143 in Surrey’s huge first innings of 556.

So far in the three first-class matches completed SLC Development team has three centurions and one double centurion. The double ton came off the bat of Nishan Madushka who scored a career best 269 in the opening match of the tour against Kent at Canterbury. 

The other centuries for the tourists have come off the bat of Nipun Dananjaya (150* v Surrey),

Lasith Croospulle (136 v Kent) and Avishka Tharindu (103* v Surrey).

As much as the SLC Development batsmen have shown good form with the bat, the opposition have also feasted on the touring team’s bowlers running up as many as six centuries which includes four in the match against Kent.
