Sports Minister Harin Fernando presents ICC CEO Geoff Allardice with a memento

Sports Minister Harin Fernando met International Cricket Council (ICC) CEO Geoff Allardice yesterday, during which a detailed discussion was held on the possibility of lifting the ban imposed on Sri Lanka Cricket by the ICC.

The Sports Minister on Facebook posted:

“Today I met ICC CEO Geoff Allardice, along with the President and a few other representatives of the Sri Lankan Cricket Board. Having previously engaged in discussions with cricket authorities, his visit today aimed to foster further collaboration and explore specific areas of mutual interest and lifting the ban imposed by ICC. In today’s meeting, key topics such as development programs, strategies, and other pertinent matters related to the global cricket landscape were discussed. As a result of the related discussion, a meeting has been scheduled with the President this evening.”

The ICC on 11 November suspended Sri Lanka Cricket because of extensive Government interference in the board’s administration. Since then the former Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe during whose tenure the ban was imposed has been removed and replaced by Harin Fernando who has taken steps to have the ICC ban on Sri Lanka lifted.
