ICC to send a senior anti-corruption officer to Sri Lanka

• Harin says meeting with ICC Anti-Corruption Unit in Dubai “positive”

International Cricket Council (ICC) will be posting one of their senior Anti-Corruption Officers to Sri Lanka, newly-appointed Sports Minister Harin Fernando said yesterday.

The Minister said that discussions held with International Cricket Council (ICC) Anti-Corruption Unit in Dubai regarding the situation in the country were “positive”. 

Speaking to Daily FT, he said that he hopes to meet ICC Chief Shashank Manohar in the coming weeks.

“Expecting an appointment hopefully first week of January upon their return from Christmas break,” he told Daily FT.

The complete Anti-Corruption Report was also handed over to the Minister during the meeting held in Dubai. 

“I had a very positive meeting with the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit in Dubai today. They handed over a report to me, and a senior ICC Anti-Corruption officer will be posted to Sri Lanka to work with us. Looking forward to meet ICC President very soon to discuss matters further,” Fernando wrote on Twitter after the meeting.

The ICC earlier briefed President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on the matter.
