The owner of the Galle Marvels team playing in the ongoing Lanka T10 Super League, an Indian national has been arrested by the Special Police Unit for the Prevention of Misconduct Related to Sports on charges of alleged match-fixing.
It is understood that the suspect has offered money to a West Indies cricketer representing Galle Marvels in the T10 Super League in exchange for fixing a match.
This player has reported the incident to the International Cricket Council (ICC) who in turn has lodged a formal complaint with the Special Police Unit prompting an investigation. A team from the unit travelled to Pallekele on Thursday and arrested the Indian national in connection with the incident.
The suspect has been remanded till Monday when his case will be taken up for hearing.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the West Indian cricketer who reported the incident – Andre Fletcher, has checked out of his hotel.
Sri Lanka Cricket which is running the tournament has imposed strict guidelines and always has an ICC anti-corruption officer present working with the local anti-corruption unit.
