The inaugural Premier Women’s Futsal Tournament organised and conducted by Colombo Football Club (CFC), will be held on 15 October at their Futsal Stadium in Dehiwala commencing 8 a.m. onwards.
The late Sabreena Yusuf, sister of Saif Yusuf the founder of CFC, had a long-standing dream of promoting women’s sports in the country, especially futsal. CFC therefore decided to conduct this event to make her vision a reality.
Sixteen teams representing schools, clubs and defence services will vie for honours. They have been slotted into four groups. As per the draw held in Colombo last Thursday, the top two teams from each group will qualify to play in the quarter finals off a redraw. The top four teams will then compete for the Cup, while the bottom four will tussle it out for the Plate Championship respectively. Each team will comprise eight players and all matches will be conducted as per the FIFA Futsal rules and regulations. The Cup Champions will carry away a bonanza of Rs. 100,000 and the Trophy, the Runner-up will receive Rs. 50,000 and third place will be awarded Rs. 25,000, while Plate Champions will be awarded Rs. 15,000, along with medals.
In addition, the organisers have opted to give away special awards as follows: replicas to the fair play team, best goal keeper, most valuable player of the tournament, highest goal scorer, and the player of the final.
