Commonwealth Games 2018

Indika Dissanyake won the first Silver for Sri Lanka at the Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast yesterday. He accounted for this medal in the Men’s 69Kg weight Weightlifting category.
Indika cleared a total of 297kg in total. Welsh player Garath Evans accounted for the Gold Medal with Bronze going to Indian Deepak Lather.
Swimming
Sri Lanka relay team qualified for the Men’s 4x100m Freestyle event. Matthew Abeysinghe, Akalanka Peiris, Cherantha De Silva and Kyle Abeysinghe teamed up to finish heats on No. 5 and qualified for the second round with the top eight teams moving to the next round.
England, New Zealand, Canada, and Northern Ireland finishing on top of Sri Lanka. Skipper Matthew Abeysinghe (49.51), Akalanka Peiris (51.75), Cherantha De Silva (51) and Kyle Abeysinghe (50.58) ended the race to register 3. 22.84 for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan Girls double of Vinoli Kaluarachchi and Dilrukshi Perera took part in the 50m Freestyle event, both finishing 3rd in their heats. Vinoli timed 28.76 seconds while Dilrukshi Perera finished with an impressive 27.75. She was in magnificent form but these timings weren’t sufficient for the Semifinal cut off timing.
Sri Lanka lose in TT
Sri Lanka women’s outfit lost to 3/0. Sri Lanka lost out by Erandi Warusawithana who was beaten by Manika Batra 11/3, 11/5 and 11/3 while Ishara Badu lost her match to Indian Suthirtha Mulcherjee 11/5, 11/8 and 11/4 in their singles plus the double event in three sets. In the second outing Sri Lankan women’s lost to Wales 3/1. The only win in the tie for Sri Lanka was won by Ishara Badu.
In the Men’s event Sri Lanka lost to Canada 3/1. Rohan Sirisena and Imesh Ranasinghe both lost their games while Buwanaka Jayasinghe and Rohan Sirisena beat the Canadian double to end the tally on 3/1 favouring the Wales.
Sri Lanka beat St. Vincent 3 to nothing in the Men’s event. Rohan Sirisena won his match against Romano Spencer and Imesh Ranasinghe beat Carlton Daniel in the second encounter. Buuwaneka Jayasinghe and Imesh Ranasinghe won the double against Andree Mitchell and Romano Spencer.
Swimming Men’s 4X100m: SL disqualified
Sri Lankan team of Matthew Abeysinghe, Akalanka Peiris, Kyle Abeysinghe and Cherantha de Silva were disqualified in the Commonwealth Games men’s 4×100 free relay.
Australia capped off the second evening of swimming at the Commonwealth Games with its sixth gold medal of the night in the men’s 4×100 free relay.
The team consisting of Cameron McEvoy (48.91), James Magnussen (48.09), Jack Cartwright (47.71) and Kyle Chalmers (48.25) put up a time of 3:12.96. England’s team of David Cumberlidge, Ben Proud, Jarvis Parkinson and James Guy took silver in 3:15.25, and Scotland, with Duncan Scott, Jack Thorpe, Kieran McGuckin and Stephen Milne, earned bronze in 3:15.86.
New Zealand finished fourth in 3:16.60, ahead of Canada (3:16.60), South Africa (3:17.37) and Northern Ireland (3:20.03).
