Kandy will be tested at Welisara
By Shamzeer Jaleel
Defending champions, Kandy Sports Club will be travelling down to Colombo for a second time when they confront Navy Sports Club away at Welisara tomorrow.
Kandy SC led by Nigel Ratwatte already lived up to the high expected standard winning both their games against Sri Lanka Air Force and CH and FC. As expected their three-quarter line was fabulae. Tharinda Ratwatte, Nigel Ratwatte, Srinarth Sooriyabandara, Danushka Dange all being omnipresent.
Not much was expected from their forwards as the majority of them were freshers. They dished out Champaign rugby. Charles Praveen, Damith Dissanayake, Yakoob Ali, Jason Dissanayake and Sanushka Abeywickrema all being rock solid not allowing the opposition to cross the line on many occasions.
Meanwhile the Sailors will expect much from skipper Adeesha Weerathunge, Chathura Seneviratne and Thilina Weerasinghe to give out their best. Both Thilina Weerasinghe (Navy SC) and Tharinda Ratwatte (Kandy SC) will be playing key roles for their respective teams in place kicking and pacing the game.
Both CR and FC and CH and FC will be all out to register wins after their last week’s defeats. CH had a handing off in Central Hills by Kandy while Air Force got the better of the Red Shirts at Longdon place. Both Kanchana Ramanayake and Supun Waruna kulasuriya will play vital part for the Red Shirts while CH will heavily depend on Suhiru Anthony, skipper, Sudarshana Muthuthanthri and Omalka Gunaratne to come out on top.
