The Ministry of Sports has handed over to its Special Investigation Unit for Sports Offences investigative reports related to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) to initiate the necessary legal action against the sports administrations as per the provisions of the Prevention of Offences in Sports Act No. 24 of 2019.
The Ministry of Sports stated that the reports were handed over to the Sports Ministry on Tuesday.
The reports include the special investigation report on the SLC, the special audit report issued by the National Audit Office, the special investigative report on the FFSL, and the internal audit report conducted by the Ministry of Sports.
The reports on SLC consist of the investigation report issued in April 2023 by the five-member committee headed by retired Supreme Court Judge Kusala Sarojanee Weerawardena into the alleged malpractices during the 2022 T20 cricket World Cup in Australia and the special audit report issued in this regard by the National Audit Office in September 2023.
The reports on FFSL consist of the special investigative report issued in April 2023, as well as the audit report conducted by the internal audit department of the Ministry of Sports regarding fraud and corruption in the Football Federation.
