Isipathana hold the edge in Abdul Jabbar Trophy

The annual encounter between Isipathana and Thurstan played for Abdul Jabbar Shield will take place today for the 47th occasion at Havelock Park.

Since its introduction, Isipathana won the trophy for 36 years in tandem till 2005. In 2005, Thurstan scored a superb win 15-6. Once again from 2006 they have been on a winning streak with the highest score in the series coming in 2015 under current national sevens player Omalka Gunaratne when they handed off Thurstan by 105 to nothing.

Isipathana have lost out only to St. Peter’s in their Singer League round 1 look solid to win the trophy this time as well.
