Isipathana show their sevens power

Isipathana U18 sevens champions for 2023

Isipathana College won the All Island Under-18 Seven-a-side rugby tournament when they completely outplayed Royal College 21/0 in the Cup final at the Bogambara Stadium last weekend.

At the short breather winners led 7/0.

Isipathana produced their usual top class sevens rugby from the kick off for the 14 minutes of the game. They were unstoppable and defence was rock solid though Royal got a few attacking opportunities Green Shirts did not show any gaps in between them for the Reid Avenue outfit to break through. Isipathana beat defending champions, St. Peter’s 19/12 while Royal beat Vidyartha 10/5 after the game going in to extra time.

Isipathana was led by Saheed Zumri who also won the Player of Tournament award while the Green Shirts were coached by Dinusha Chathuranga and assisted by Shenal Deelaka.

Mahanama handed off Ananda 27/0 to win the Shield trophy while the Kandy lads encounter between Kingswood and Antonians ended in a 7 a piece draw after full time. Going in to extra time Kingswood bagged the Bowl winning 12/7.Meanwhile D.S. did not return to Colombo empty handed when they accounted for the Plate win over Joes 19/17.
