Jayasuriya appointed to 7-member National Sports Selection Committee

Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe has appointed a seven-member National Sports Selection Committee that comprises former Sri Lanka cricket captain Sanath Jayasuriya.

Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva has been appointed as the Chairman of the Committee.

Speaking to the media after his appointment, Jayasuriya stated that the Sports Minister has given them a big responsibility.

“All of us have a responsibility to do good things and take the country forward in all sports. We are doing this independently without any favouritism. It is our responsibility to give self-confidence to the sports men and women to help them bring honour and glory to the country.”

The National Sports Selection Committee comprises Chairman General Shavendra Silva, Secretary Arjun Fernando, member Consultant Surgeon Dr. Maiya Gunasekera, Sports Ministry representative Prasanna Chandith, member Sanath Jayasuriya, member National Olympics Committee Secretary and member/women representative Thilaka Jinadasa.
