With the two-Test home series against New Zealand barely less than a fortnight away, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have not yet found a suitable permanent head coach to fill the vacancy created following the resignation of Chris Silverwood.
In the circumstances it is likely that former Sri Lanka Captain Sanath Jayasuriya who was appointed by SLC as interim head coach to oversee the two series against India at home and the current Test tour to England will be asked to continue in his present role for the New Zealand series also.
SLC sources said that Jayasuriya has not been approached so far and informed about their plans, but they intend doing so shortly.
Jayasuriya is currently on a one-year contract with SLC as their full-time cricket consultant overseeing both players and coaches working at SLC’s High Performance Centre (HPC) in Khettarama. – (ST)
