 Jevahn and Kaya in Scotland

By Shamseer Jaleel

Jevahn Sathasivam and Kaya Daluwatte represented Sri Lanka in the world famous R & A Junior Open in Scotland recently, putting Sri Lankan Golf into the global spotlight.

Their participation in this prestigious event, which featured the best junior players from each R & A-affiliated country, has not only highlighted their individual skills but also elevated the status of Sri Lankan Golf in the eyes of the world.

Competing against young golfers from 70 countries, Jevahn and Kaya have shown that Sri Lanka has a promising future in the sport.

One of the most significant aspects of their participation has been the exposure to links courses. For golfers from the subcontinent, where such courses are rare, playing on these terrains presents unique challenges. The cold and windy conditions of the links courses, vastly different from the tropical climate they are accustomed to, have tested their adaptability and resilience.

Despite these difficulties, Jevahn and Kaya have demonstrated remarkable perseverance and skill, showing their ability to compete under diverse conditions where both secured the cut.

These tournaments augur well for earning World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points and gaining recognition for Sri Lankan junior golf.

The Sri Lanka Golf Union deserves immense gratitude for their role in encouraging and supporting these young talents. Their commitment to nurturing young golfers has been instrumental in making this achievement possible. With the continued support of Sri Lanka Golf, the future of golf in Sri Lanka looks incredibly bright.
