Kandurata Group to sponsor Trinity Rugby

Kandurata Group of Companies has come forward as a sponsor of Trinity Rugby, commencing 2018.

Trinity College Kandy, an institution that introduced rugby to schools in the country, has a peerlessly rich tradition of 112years of rugby. Trinity College has been consistently producing top rugby teams over the years while contributing to the game by producing many national players, captains, referees and administrators. 

Trinity and Royal play the traditional Bradby Shield encounter, which is the “blue riband” of schools rugby in Sri Lanka. After 73 years, the Bradby Shield count stands at Trinity 39 wins, Royal 32 wins and two ties. 

The Trinity 2018 1st XV is captained by Avishka Sheikwith his deputy being Naveen Rajaratnam. This year, Trinity has an experienced side, coached for the second year by LoteRaikabula. Lote is a Rugby Sevens legend, winning five IRB Sevens World Series medals, a Rugby World Cup Sevens title and two Commonwealth Games gold medals. Trinity kicks off the season against hometown rivals St. Anthony’s on 11 March 2018 at Nittawela. 

Kandurata Umbrella industries,which began over four decades ago are engaged in manufacturing and marketing of Penguin brand products, consists of a range of high quality umbrellas, mosquito nets, socks, and raincoats for all ages and both genders. 

Kandurata is a corporate leader that is in the forefront of promoting sports in Sri Lanka. They have been the clothing sponsor of the Sinhalese Sports Club cricket team continuously for the past six years and has been exclusively working  with TAFA (Thaabit Ahmed Football Academy) sponsoring them for past two years and backing them in many ways and forms, allowing them to grow and spread football to the youth of our nation. 

Old Trinitians Rugby Scrummage has facilitated this partnership between Kandurata Umbrellas and Trinity College Kandy, which will enable Trinity Rugby to pursue its goal of ensuring Trinitians who play Rugby are equipped and skilled to meet the high expectations of team performance on the field, play the game in the correct spirit and most importantly, have the ability to reach out to society as responsible citizens.
