Savinka Weerasekara triumphed in the Men’s open category, while Panchali Adhikari emerged victorious in the Women’s open category at the Kandy All Island Open Badminton Championship, organised by the Central Province Badminton Association, affiliated with Sri Lanka Badminton.
The national-ranking tournament, held at the Provincial Council Sports Complex in Rajawella, Digana saw Savinka defeating Sanuda Imal Ariyasinghe in straight sets (21-14, 21-15) in the men’s open final, while Panchali beat Sanadi Dahamsa de Silva with scores of 20-22, 21-12, and 21-14 to win the women’s open singles title.
In the Men’s open doubles, Alan Dharmasaputra and Marcello Vittorio defeated Tenuka Sathsara de Silva and Tarusha Madhubanu with scores of 21-10, 19-21, and 21-17 in the final. Hasini Nusaka and Hasara Wijayaratne claimed the Women’s open doubles title by defeating Nilasi Siyara Balasuriya and Jananuwani Amanda de Alwis with scores of 21-16 and 21-12.
The Mixed doubles title was won by Dharmasaputra and Panchali who triumphed over Marcello and Ranumi Suhasnie Manage with scores of 19-21, 24-22, and 21-12.
The Kandy All-Island Open Badminton Championship featured a vast array of competitions spanning over different categories: Open, Junior, Senior, and Veterans, while a massive prize purse of Rs. 1.75 million along with certificates, trophies, and medals, were on offer for the podium winners.
The championship was sponsored by Macfoil, Mobile, LiNing, 3M, and GAC.
