Kandy scrum half Shanuska Abeywickrema slings out a pass

Defending League Champions, Kandy Sports Club survived yet another game and saved the day for their big battle against the Red Shirts next weekend at Longdon Place.

On Saturday, Kandy got the better of Havelock Sports Club by 19 points (3 tries, 2 conversions) to 15 points (2 tries, 1 conversion, 1 penalty) at Havelock Park.

At the short breather it was the Park Club who led 3/0.

The game was contested with terrific speed by both teams who opted to use their three-quarter line but sadly handling errors over shadowed the game with both teams guilty of plenty of ball handling errors in the first half. But after the short breather Kandy looked a different outfit crossing Park Club try line thrice. Havies after scoring a solitary penalty in the first half came back in the later half to score two tries but ran out of time. Meanwhile Kandy though tried their best was denied a bonus point once again by Havies. Earlier the Park club denied CR as well for bonus point while they collected 2 losing bonus points through their game against CR and FC and Kandy SC as they lost within 7 points.

Both Havies and Kandy SC missed two kickable penalties early in the first half. Towards the end of the initial half Janith Chandimal put over the only penalty in the first half to take the short breather favoring the Park Club 3/0.

After the turn around Kandy SC scored tries through full back, Suranga Tennekoon, Centre number 8, Jason Dissanayake and Lavanga Perera. Tarinda Ratwatte converted two of them. Meanwhile for the Havies their tries were scored by Janith Chandimal and Oliver Buckle. Sandesh Jayawickrema converted one of them.

Referee was Ishanka Abeykoon.
