Kandy SC number 8 Daham Wickremarachchi avoids a Soldier's tackle
Kandy Sports Club on Saturday reached top gear in their second game for the season, both played at home at Nittawela.
After handing off Sri Lions 60 plus points, Kandy delivered an even better performance when they grounded the Army SC 70/5 in a one sided affair in the Central Hills in front of an appreciative but half packed Stadium at Nittawela.
Kandy SC centre, Tarinda Ratwatte was in peak form running at will, converting penalties and putting over conversions without any effort. His supreme form and class play by him plus his three quarters were a treat to watch.
Army scored first through their full back, Sudaraka Dikkumbura who scored in the 15th minute of the game. But Kandy hit back through Tarinda Ratwatte’s penalty. Kandy scored their first try through their pack leader, Daham Wickramarachchi powering his way through. Tarinda added the extra points. Two more Danushka Ranjan try plus Heshan Jensen try and conversion took Kandy in to a solid 22/5 lead. But Kandy was unstoppable with three more tries through Dinal Ekanayake and Kavindu Perera plus a penalty took them to 39/5 at the short breather. After the turn around, Kandy scored tries through Malith Wijesundera, Tarinda Ratwatte, Nepul Athukorale and Dinal Ekanayake. Tarinda did the conversions plus put over a penalty as well.
Referee was Gihan Yatawara.
