Havies too in with a chance for the League title
By Shamseer Jaleel
Currently unbeaten and defending League champions, Kandy Sports Club will be making their second last league appearance in Colombo when they confront CH and FC at Racecourse this weekend.
Kandy Sports Club under Nigel Ratwatte will be all out to continue their winning streak in the Nippon Paint Rugby League 2022 Cup segment with 45 points under their belt while CH and FC are in the number three position at 26 points.
Only Kandy SC and Havies got a chance to claim the Cup this time around.
Kandy as usual got a lightning speed three quarte line. Tharinda Ratwatte, Diluksha Danga, Kavindu Perera, Buddhima Piyaratne and Srinarth Sooriyabandara playing at full back all being national players plus their experience level at the club or national level is at its peak.
Kandy is fortunate to get the service of Shehan Pathirana along with Jason Dissanayake, Tharindu Chathuranga, and Damith Dissanayake being omnipresent. With experienced Roshan Weeraratne operating from the base linking both the forwards and three quarters, it’s a coaching staff’s dream to have such an outfit.
Meanwhile, CH and FC are nothing short of experience in a club or national acquiring the majority of the best available players this season. Ganuka Dissanayake, Soyuro Anthony, Samuel Ogbebor, Sudarshana Muthuthanthri, Avishka Lee, Sudam Sooriyarachchi, and Janidu Dilshan are all players with immense exposure in club rugby.
If they click as a unit and play cohesive rugby then they can give the champion, Kandy outfit a torrid time.
Referee will be Ishanka Abeykoon.
