Kandy starts on a winning note

Kandy Sports Club, the defending champions showed that they are class above the rest when they outclassed Sri Lanka Air Force 34/12 at Ratmalana in their very first game for the season. This win is very significant for the Up-Country outfit as they lost the entire set of forwards this year either migrating, stop playing rugby or crossing clubs.

Kandy collected their points from 5 tries, 3 conversions and one penalty to the hosts 2 tries and 1 conversion. Kandy led 15/12 at the short breather.

Kandy hooker, Damith Dissanayake scored their first try while Tharinda Ratwatte penalty took them to 8/0 lead. Bu the Air Force outfit cut the deficit through Gayantha Iddamalgoda try and Nuwan Perera conversion. But the hosts shocked the defending champions when they took the lead 12/8 through Prakrama Ratnayake try. But the lead was short lived as Tharinda Ratwatte scored a beautiful try and converted to take the lead 15/12.

But Kandy settled and played well with their advantage through their three-quarter line. Nippy scrum half, Srinarth Sooriyabandara touched down twice. Buddima Piyaratne too added his name to the score sheet with Tharinda Ratwatte converting two of them to take an easy 34/12 win.



Havies outclass the Sailors

Navy SC 5 points


Havelock SC outclassed the Sailors 21/5 at Havelock Park scoring all their points in the initial half. Sailors who played with better coordination held the Park Club and did not allow to score any points. Navy SC could score one try in the later half.

Winger Ramesh Fernando drew first blood for the Park Club with Sandesh Jayawickrema adding the extras. But they did not stop their as they were both again added their name to the score sheet with Ramesh Fernando scoring the second try while Jayawickrema added the extras. Second havies try was scored by Asitha Punchihewa. The match was full of Yellow cards with both teams were guilty for. Sailors scored their only try off Amith Gunasinghe



Army on level with CR

Army SC 16 points

CR & FC 16 points


Army SC came from behind 6/16 to level on par with CR & FC in their Inter Club rugby encounter played at the Havelock Park.

CR opened the scoring through Kanchan Ramanayake while their second try was scored through Supun Warunakulasuriya. Kavindu de Costa put over two penalties.

For the Army Sports Club two tries were scored by hooker Chalika Sadaruwan and Thirusha Adikaram.

Tharindu Hettiarachchi was responsible for a drop goal while experienced Gayan Salinda put over the penalty.



CH vs Police postponed

The encounter between CH and FC vs Police which was to be played yesterday was postponed to a later date due to the request made by CH to Sri Lanka Rugby.
