Defending League and Clifford Cup Champions, Kandy Sports Club will start their season with a game against Sri Lanka Air Force on 10 November at Ratmalana.
Dialog Rugby Season 2018/19 will kick off a day before with Havies hosting Army SC at Havelock Park under lights. Eight clubs will compete in home and away matches with the bottom four teams being allowed to field one overseas player.
According to reliable sources, each club’s (bottom four) will need to register the players with Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) and they will get the payment reimbursed to their account which is estimated to be around Rs. 300,000 per club.
The top four teams will compete for the Cup while the bottom four contest for the Plate title. Kandy will defend their title which they won under Gayan Weeraratne. The usual 14-week league will have two more rounds with a semi-final and final to decide the winners of the Cup and Plate which is similar to the Super Rugby. Bu the defending champions, Kandy SC has already objected to this format.
The 1st round of matches will be carried out from 9 November to 23 December while the 2nd round will be worked off from 4 January to 17 February 2019. The super round will start from 22 February and end on 3 March with the Cup final.
