Two top class sevens players, Kavindu Perera and Adeesha Weerathunge both being tested positive at the PCR test conducted on Sunday and will miss out the Commonwealth Rugby Sevens 2022 which will take place in UK. The team left early morning Monday to Birmingham. Both these players will be replaced with Iroshan Silva (Police SC) and Ramesh Fernando (Havelock SC).
Speaking to Daily FT, Sri Lanka Men’s Head Coach Nilfer Ibrahim said: “This is a huge blow for us. Both trained very hard and was part of the squad for more than two months. Anyway, this will be a good opportunity for both Iroshan and Ramesh where both did very well at the last season and deserve their selections into the squad.”
