While BRC failed to make use of the opportunity to go on top of the SLC Major League inter-club Group A standings by losing to Ragama CC last weekend, defending champions CCC took the opportunity to beat Colts by five wickets and go atop of the group to set up a key clash with second-placed Moors SC at the Moors SC grounds
commencing today.
With only the leaders of the two groups qualifying to meet in the four-day final, the tussle to head the respective groups is intensifying each week.
Moors SC held onto the Group A leadership for the first three weekends but conceded it to CCC when they had a free weekend last week. Thus the CCC-Moors SC clash easily becomes the pick of the 12 matches down for decision this week.
Ragama CC who moved to third position with their win over BRC take on Police SC at Police Park, a match from which they should get full points off.
Fourth-placed BRC after their defeat at the hands of Ragama CC come up against another strong opponent when they host sixth-placed SSC at BRC grounds.
Fifth-placed Colts have a good opportunity of moving up the table when they host Lankan CC who are struggling at second place from the bottom of the table.
Meanwhile, Tamil Union has continued to dominate Group B opening up a ten-point lead over second-placed Badureliya SC. Along with Chilaw Marians CC, they are the only unbeaten side in the group not even conceding first innings points in their four matches played so far.
Tamil Union will be looking to consolidate their top position when they host sixth-placed Saracens SC at the P. Sara Oval.
Third-placed Chilaw Marians CC who have won all their matches in the first innings will look to grab as many points as they can against Ace Capital CC at the R. Premadasa Stadium.
There is bound to be a keen tussle when fourth-placed Army SC hosts second-placed Badureliya SC at Panagoda.
