Twenty-three junior golfers took part in the Eagles Heritage Golf Club Anuradhapura Inaugural SLGU Inter-Academy Novices Golf Tournament conducted by the Sri Lanka Golf Union recently.
The Kilinochchi Academy produced the competition’s winning team.
HSBC Sri Lanka and Maldives CEO Mark Prothero said: “The HSBC Future Lions Junior Golf grassroots program attracted over 300 children in its inaugural year. We are hugely encouraged with its outcome and offer our congratulations to the junior golfers from Kilinochchi on their victory at this event. HSBC, as a global supporter of the game, is delighted to support Sri Lanka Golf in its endeavour to engage more junior golfers and provide an opportunity for players from across Sri Lanka to experience the sport and more importantly enjoy it. We look forward to the HSBC Future Lions program in 2018.”
There were no corporate sponsors for this event with the cost being met by donations through a fundraiser organised by Sri Lanka’s top golf professionals called ‘Pros give back’, in appreciation of the support that they were given by the Sri Lanka Golf Union to become top amateurs before they turned professional.
