The lush green fairways of the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club (NEGC) are set to witness an epic showdown as the NEGC Men's and Ladies Championship returns as the highlight of the golfing calendar.
With over 100 entrants vying for the coveted Club championship titles, the competition promises to be fierce and exhilarating. Kushal Johnpillai (Gents) and Anouk Chitty (Ladies) are expected to defend their title which they won last, but Anouk’s participation looks in doubt.
The NEGC steeped in history and tradition, has been hosting this prestigious championship since 1933. Over the years, it has become a symbol of excellence in the sport attracting the finest golfers from across the country. The first Men's Club The championship title was clinched by the legendary M.H. Lushington.
The Club championship will take place on 29 and 30 September while the Graeme Sinclair Cup 2023, Ogilvy Cup 2023 (making its debut in the board event category), and the Annual Gold Medal 2023, are scheduled for 28 and 29 September. These events have garnered tremendous attention, boasting a list of over 75 skilled players.
Reshan Algama, a history-making 15-year-old golf sensation who recently clinched the champion title at the Royal Colombo Golf Club, and Jevahn Sathasivam, an emerging young talent, are scheduled to grace the course with their presence. Their participation adds an extra layer of intrigue to the competitions, as golf aficionados eagerly anticipate their performances. – (SJ)
