Sri Lankan women cricketers turning out for the three Forces teams Army SC, Navy SC and Air Force SC helped dominate the SLC Women’s Division I cricket tournament for the second successive day

with all three units securing victories.

Veteran Sri Lanka Women’s all-rounder Chamari Polgampola produced a stunning spell of right-arm seam bowling returning figures of 8-4-4-4 to give Air Force SC A a comprehensive seven-wicket win over Seenigama CC. Seenigama CC were bundled out for 92 and Chamari followed up her excellent bowling effort by scoring 26 out of an opening stand of 76 with Yashoda Mendis (33) to enhance the run chase.

The combined bowling efforts of Sri Lanka Women players Shashikala Siriwardene, Inoka Ranaweera and Udeshika Prabodhani proved too much for Chilaw Marians CC who succumbed to a crushing nine-wicket defeat to Navy SC. Marians CC were shot out for 69 and Navy had no trouble getting the runs with plenty to spare.

An unbeaten half-century from Kasakara Kankanamge Suranthi (52 off 94 balls) coupled with the spin of Ruchi Samarasinghe and Chathurani Gunawardana who shared six wickets saw Air Force SC B beat Colts CC by 41 runs.

The left-arm spin combination of Sri Lanka’s Sugandika Kumari and Nilakshi de Silva who between them took seven wickets saw Army SC A complete an easy 67-run over Army SC B. – (ST)
