Lochana, Ranithma clinch double crowns

Lochana de Silva and Ranithma Liyanage clinched double crowns at the Summer Season All-Island Badminton Championship conducted by the Central Provincial Badminton Association under the auspices of the Sri Lanka Badminton.

Held at the Municipal Indoor Stadium Nuwara Eliya, Lochana beat Savinaka Weerasekara in the Men’s Singles final (18.21,21-13,21-13) and Ranithma beat Praveena Wijesundara in the Women’s Open final (21-10, 21-11) in the nine-day event.

The Men’s Doubles final was won by Oshamika Karunaratne and Thulith Palliyaguruge overpowering Lochana de Silva and Siyath Senaratne (22-20,14-21,24-22).

Ranithma Liyanage and Kavindi Sirimannage won the Women’s Doubles final as they defeated Hasini Ambalangodage and Hasara Wijayaratne to clinch the title (21-12,21-11).

The Mixed Doubles final was won by Lochana de Silva and Nadeesha Gayathri who defeated Lasitha Menaka and Renu Chandrika de Silva (21-15,21-15).

Sri Lanka Badminton President Rohan de Silva, Former Mayor of Nuwara Eliya and Officials of the Central Provincial Badminton Association were the special guests at the awards ceremony.
