The 15th Mercantile Swimming Championship organised by Thurstan College Aquatic Club in association with Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU) was concluded recently at the Thurstan College Swimming Pool Complex. Around 600 swimmers from 33 mercantile sector organisations competed at this annual event conducted for the President’s Challenge Trophy. MAS Holdings team with 559 points was able to retain the Challenge Trophy and this is the 11th occasion that the MAS Holdings has won the title.
John Keels Group Team with 524 points became the first runner up and the Sri Lankan Airlines team with 520 points secured the second runners up position
The Awards presentation was held under the patronage of distinguished Thurstanite and Secretary of Defense Air Vise Marshal (Rtd.) Sampath Thuyacontha. The victorious MAS Holding team received the President’s Challenge Trophy for the 2024 Mercantile Swimming Championship from the Defence Secretary.
The special moment of the awards ceremony was presenting a memento in memory of distinguished old Thurstanite late Lion Greatian Gunawardhana, the donor of the Thurstan College Swimming Pool Complex, to his wife Sriyani Gunawardhana by the Defense Secretary.
