The Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) will open its new season (2023/24) with the MCA “D” division 40 over League Tournament on Saturday 4 November 2023.
11 teams, including two brand new teams, namely, Power Hand Plantation and Recovery Room are in the fray.
The teams were pooled into two groups as follows:
Group “A”/06 teams: Peoples Leasing, Power Hand Plantation, Melwire Rolling, Central Finance, Hayleys Group “B” and Colombo Dockyard.
Group “B”/05 teams: Recovery Room, Nations Trust Bank “A” (NTB), Yokohama TWS, Stafford Motors and National Development Bank “A” (NDB)
The tournament will be conducted in two stages: the “League” stage, consisting 25 matches and the “Knock-out” stage consisting seven matches, including the Final.
According to the match program, the 25 League Stage matches will be played from 4 November to 3 December 2023.
At the completion of the round-robin, the top four teams from each group will advance to the Knock-outs.
The quarter finals are scheduled for 9 and 10 December; the Semi-finals on 16 December and the final in the new year, 6 January 2024 at the MCA Grounds.
In the previous season, David Pieris Group of Companies won this division, beating Airport and Aviation by two wickets at the MCA Grounds.
