MMMC College edge Karachi University in thriller at NCC

Red Bull Campus Cricket World Final 

A high-octane India-Pakistan clash at the NCC got the tense finish it needed, as the MMMC College team, out of Pune, chased down a target of 110 with three balls to spare, in a nine-over match. 

Allrounder Divyang Hingekar starred with both bat and ball, first taking two wickets with the ball, then contributing a decisive 22 not out off nine deliveries with the bat, to help guide the MMMC College team home. 

With him at the finish, and hitting the winning runs was Yash Nahar, whose 42 off 19 balls featured three sixes, including the shot to win the match. A charged-up Nahar celebrated raucously with his teammates, while the Karachi team were left dejected. MMMC College have now won all three of their games this tournament and have emerged as the early favourites to win the title. The match was only nine overs long, because a wet outfield delayed play. 

MMMC College won by six wickets, with three balls to spare.

Herriott-Watt University v National University of Science and Technology at SSC

A ballistic 65 off 22 balls from No. 3 batsman Syed Faizan powered UAE’s Herriot-Watt University to their first victory of the tournament, as they defeated Zimbabwe’s National University of Science and Technology (NUST) by three wickets. NUST had made a steady 120 for 6 in the shortened 16-over encounter, their score driven forward primarily by wicketkeeper-batsman Mthandaza Moyo, who hit 44 off 38 deliveries. Herriott-Watt would go on to knock off the target inside 14 overs, however, as Faizan clobbered seven sixes and four fours, hitting a boundary off roughly every second ball that he faced. Although NUST bowlers Anele Ngwenya and Tawanda Charumbira took five wickets between them, they could not put a timely end to Faizan’s fireworks.

BMS v ULAB at NCC

Home team Business Management School (BMS) rode an attractive 66 not out off 43 balls from No. 3 batsman Hashan Dumindu to a comfortable six-wicket victory over the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), to get their campaign back on track following a loss to MMMC College on day two. 

A disciplined bowling effort headed by opening bowler Pramod Madushan, who took 3 for 27 from his four overs, saw BMS restrict ULAB to 142 for 7 from their 20 overs, despite a half-century from ULAB’s wicketkeeper-batsman Sabit Hossain. BMS were assured in their reply. Dumindu and opener Pasindu Lakshanka put on 64 for the second wicket to get their innings off to a promising start, before No. 5 batsman Janith Liyanage also joined Dumindu for another 50-plus stand. BMS reached the target with 10 balls to spare.
