Macksons, a leading Sri Lankan conglomerate, has announced their sponsorship of the 2021 Lanka Premier League Twenty20 franchise cricket tournament. Macksons Holdings, the renowned paint manufacturer Multilac and tile manufacturer Macktiles, came on board as an official ‘League Partner’ of the tournament.
The 2021 tournament is the second edition of the LPL and will feature five teams batting each other to win the championship. The inaugural edition was held in November-December 2020, where the Jaffna Stallions emerged as the inaugural champions.
The agreement was signed between IPG CEO/Co-Founder Anil Mohan and Macksons Director/CEO Shimmer Milfer.
Macksons Director/COO Sajjaad Saliheen stated: “We are always very proud of the fact that we are a Sri Lankan company. When we were given the opportunity to work with the LPL, we believed it was a great opportunity for us to showcase our loyalty to our country. We believe LPL has been instrumental in signalling a new dawn in Sri Lanka Cricket. Our beautiful nation has so much to offer, and cricket is a part of that. I would also like to thank Minister of Youth and Sports Namal Rajapaksa.
“It is an honour to be a sponsor of the Lanka Premier League, a promising and inspiring tournament. We look forward to working with Sri Lanka Cricket and IPG Group to create and provide a thrilling cricketing experience to fans throughout the nation. Our paints Multilac, our tiles Macktiles, our cricket LPL.”
Due to the prevailing pandemic, on the advice of the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka Cricket has opened ticket sales for up to 50% of stadium capacity for the second season of the tournament, which kicked off on 5 December and will be held until 23 December.
The league matches will take place at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, with the final rounds hosted at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, Hambantota.
The LPL will be conducted with strict adherence to COVID-19 measures to ensure the health and safety of all cricketers, personnel and spectators throughout all the matches. All spectators in the stands will be required to wear masks and maintain social distancing at all times during the matches.
