Nishan Madushka, the former Moratu Vidyalaya wicket-keeper/batsman carved a niche for himself when he scored his first double century for Sri Lanka Emerging team in their opening 4-day tour match against English county Kent at Canterbury.
Madushka (22) who resumed his innings at 104* batted virtually the entire third day to take his personal score to 269 off 392 balls – his fourth first class hundred in 24 matches. His eight and a quarter hour stay at the wicket yielded 37 fours and two sixes and involved a 294 runs stand for the second wicket with Lasith Croospulle who went on to score the second first-class hundred of his career – a 179-ball innings of 136 (14 fours, 2 sixes).
Madushka’s marathon knock ended two overs before stumps on the third day when he edged a catch behind the wicket to give George Linde, the South African left-arm slow bowler his second wicket of the innings.
A third Sri Lankan batsman Nuwanidu Fernando missed out on a century when he was dismissed for 99, scored off 108 balls (14 fours, 2 sixes).
Sri Lanka Emerging in reply to Kent’s first innings of 595-8 declared scored 658-9 before closing their innings with a lead of 63 runs on the fourth and final day, leaving Santhush Gunathilaka unbeaten on 58 scored off 116 balls (8 fours).
