Michael Perera Magala was unanimously elected as the new President of the Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU) at its Annual General Meeting held online on 1 June 2021, under the auspices of the Department of Sports Development of the Ministry of Sports.

The AGM also saw election of office bearers to the SLGU based on nominations received subject to a vote held online.

Magala is the immediate Past President of the Royal Colombo Golf Club. He is fondly known as a single figure golfer with much experience as an administrator and renowned leader. Magala takes over during a difficult period in history due to the ensuing COVID pandemic with the possibility of golf getting back to regular play, depending largely on the safety of players from contacting the virus.

Ranil Peiris, the incumbent President of the Royal Colombo Golf Club, was elected Vice President of the SLGU.

Lal Raj Wickramathunge, a hostile fast-bowler in the early days of Sri Lanka Cricket, and now a regular Golfer, was duly elected as the Honorary Secretary of the SLGU. The former Treasurer G.K. Sudath Kumara was re-elected to complete the team of Office Bearers for the term of office 2021 – 2023.
