Mahesh Weerasinghe is tipped to be appointed as the Head Coach of Sri Lankan Women’s outfit. Former Joes player Harsha de Silva’s term will come to an end in August. Mahesh is expected to handle the team for six months. He is the current emerging coach of the Women’s outfit in the country.
De Silva took over from Hemantha Devapriya, another national cricketer who did yeoman service for the women’s outfit but ended his contract prematurely. Mahesh will be entrusted to take the national team through in the ICC Women’s World Cup qualification event which will take place later this year. Originally, this was scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka during July but was postponed due to COVID-19.
