NCC Captain Lahiru Udara and Niroshan Dickwella figured in an opening stand of 195
NCC completed a two-day win by an innings and 31 runs over Sebastianites in a Major Club 3-day League match played at the NCC Grounds yesterday. The architects of NCC’s win were two Test discards Niroshan Dickwella and Lasith Embuldeniya and skipper Lahiru Udara. Dickwella (122 off 95 balls, 15 fours, 1 six) and Udara (134 off 140 balls, 14 fours, 1 six) put on an opening stand of 195 in NCC’s total of 304. Sebastianites were dismissed for 120 and 153 with Embuldeniya picking up 5/59 in the second innings. Right-arm seamer Isitha Wijesundara took 5/40 for Sebastianites.
Colts have already gained a first innings lead over Park rivals BRC on the opening day of their match at Colts Grounds. BRC were bundled out for 144 with former Sri Lanka off-spinner Dilruwan Perera making a top score of 56 off 39 balls (8 fours, 1 six) for them. Colts closed on 182-2 with skipper Sangeeth Cooray scoring 87* off 129 balls (8 fours, 1 six).
Shevon Daniel playing in his fifth first-class match scored his maiden century – a double one at that (209 off 180 balls, 25 fours, 9 sixes) to lead SSC on a run spree against Negombo CC at the SSC Grounds. Half-centuries from Sri Lanka opener Avishka Fernando (76 off 67 balls, 16 fours) and Sri Lanka U19 cricketer Dinura Kalupahana (57* off 50 balls, 7 fours, 1 six), his maiden first-class fifty saw SSC thump a first day score of 442-9.
Defending champions CCC dismissed Nugegoda SWC for 168 (Jason Perera 72) and were well placed at the end of the day on 143-3 (Pawan Ratnayake 64*) at the CCC Grounds.
Centuries from Sohan de Livera (130 off 168 balls, 14 fours) and Janishka Perera (124 off 228 balls, 11 fours, 2 sixes) coupled with captain Ramesh Mendis’s unbeaten 60 off 84 balls (5 fours, 1 six) enabled Moors SC finish on 366-5 against Air Force SC at Katunayake.
Skipper Lasith Abeyratne missed out on a hundred by one run (99 off 193 balls, 7 fours, 1 six) and Ravindu Fernando scored 107 off 138 balls (14 fours, 2 sixes) to enable Tamil Union finish on 321-8 against Kurunegala YCC at Kurunegala.
Chilaw Marians CC’s overseas player from Mumbai Ninad Kadam scored his maiden first-class century in his 14th match (106 off 154 balls, 10 fours, 2 sixes) and Kasun Vidura struck eight fours and a six in his 81 off 128 balls to help the club to 344 all out against Bloomfield at Bloomfield Grounds.
Wicketkeeper/bat Sithara Gimhan made a top score of 126 off 205 balls (10 fours, 4 sixes) as Ace Capitals CC were dismissed for 239 by the spin of Alankara Silva (4/67), Chanaka Komasaru (3/59) and Parvez Rasool (3/95). By stumps Badureliya CC were 37-3.
Fifties from Pawan Sandesh (52), Roshan Wijenayake (71) and Samarth Seth (74*) saw Ragama CC end the first day on 307-5 against Panadura SC at Thurstan Grounds.
Left-arm spinner Kaumal Nanayakkara took four wickets for Army SC as Kandy Customs SC finished on 145-7 where only 54 overs were possible because of wet ground conditions at Panagoda. (ST)
