Champions League winners Matara City Club
Matara City emerged as champions on a higher points aggregate after holding Java Lane to a 1-all draw to carry away the Champions League Soccer Championship played under lights at the Race Course Stadium yesterday.
Every though it was somewhat a final match, Matara lads cruised to win the title well ahead after heading the points table after completion of almost 13 matches before they entered this stage of the tournament.
Java Lane took the upper hand on this game and dominated play through out with scintillating performance. Oluwaseeun Olawale, the African contingent player made the initial scoring of the match in the 34 minute of the match which remained unchanged until the short whistle.
After the breather much were expected from both teams. But the boys from Colombo imposed the pressure on their rivals to dominate play. They made several moves attempting to increase their score which ended up off target. The game surged ahead and in 82 minute of the game, Rehan Weerappuli equalised with a power packed left footed kick from 20 metres out from the goals mouth in the mid-field area which remained made score line unchanged.
