After a month of matches, the 34th MBA Inter-Firm Team Badminton Championships 2017 ended on 28 October with the shuttlers of the McLarens Group emerging as overall champions of the tournament for the third time.
The tournament, comprising over 50 companies and 199 teams competing in 17 divisions, is categorised as one of the toughest and most competitive events on the badminton calendar. Through fierce competition and high-tension matches, the McLarens shuttlers fought their way to the trophy with their skill, sheer force of will and unwavering determination to win the overall championship along with the most prestigious titles in the respective divisions.
Teams from McLarens won titles in the Women’s ‘A’ Division, Men’s Veterans ‘A’ Division Team 1, Women’s ‘B’ Division and Men’s ‘C’ Division. In the Men’s ‘A’ Division Team 1, Men’s Veterans ‘A’ Division Team 2, Men’s ‘B’ Division, Over 40s Women and Men’s Masters McLarens finished runners-up, in the Men’s ‘A’ Division Team 2 and Men’s Veterans ‘C’ Division they placed third while they placed fourth in the Women’s ‘C’ Division.
Further to these amazing accolades, the MBA acknowledged the McLarens Group shuttlers for their outstanding skill and resolve by awarding Best Player Awards by divisions to Achini Rathnasiri (Women’s A), Himashi Sasinka (Women’s B), Rukshan Pathirana (Men’s C) and Subash De Silva (Veteran’s A) who truly stood out and played outstandingly in their matches.
