Ten teams of the memon community will compete in season 2 of the WMO Champions League cricket tournament which kicks off on Sunday at Malay Grounds.
The draw took place at the Orwell residencies on 7 March with the grace of WMO Far East Chapter VP Dr. Haroon Admani, WMO Trustee Farook Kassim and WMO Far East Chapter Trustee Razak Osman with the executive members of WMO Global Youth Wing Far East Chapter.
The tournament will be conducted on a league basis and at the end of the league stage the first four teams will play in the cup semi-finals leading to finals. The tournament has a Title Sponsor – Meadowlea and the Gold Sponsor being Cartivate Motors, it has given the organizers to plan the event in an international standard.
The Cup champions will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 30,000 along with a trophy and the runner-up will get Rs. 15,000 plus trophy.
Special trophies for Most Valuable Player and best decorated tent are also on offer.
This has been one of the many projects conducted by WMO Global Youth Wing Far East Chapter in terms of fund raising to do social upliftment projects in Sri Lanka. Whilst social projects like Multi Community Free Health Camp, Providing Immediate relief at Flash Floods, Depression Awareness projects are some of the many mass community benefitting projects done by this organisation, which is headed by Saad Iqbal, Secretary Sajeeth Ilyas and Treasurer Dhaiyyan Majeed, and Project Director Saqib Sangani commented at the Draw.
