Royal College will host S. Thomas College in their 60th Michael Gunaratne Trophy rugby encounter which will be worked off at the Royal Sports Complex today (14 Sept).
Kick off is at 4.15 p.m.
Michael Gunaratne Trophy commenced in 1962. Overall both schools have played in 66 encounter with the Reid Avenue boys leading the tally with 40 wins to their opponents 20 while 6 encounters ending in draws. Royal are the defending champion. Last Thomian win away was in 2016.
Royal is led by Thivain Perera while Yehan Bulathsinghalage leads the Thomian outfit who had a grand season though the start they had hiccups. They ended losers in the semis to Isipathana where the game going into injury time. Meanwhile Royal will like to forget the past this season. They lot out both Maj Milroy Fernando Trophy to Isipathana through conceding a last minute penalty plus the Bradby Shield to Trinity College.
