Seasoned golfers, Nishantha Perera (Gents) and Pravina Dunuwila (Ladies) painted the Port City of Trincomalee with wins at the Monsoon Cup Golf 2023 with Gross wins for their respective segments. The event was organised by Sri Lanka Air Force, Eagles Golf Link in China Bay last weekend.

The port town steeped in rich history, bore witness to the exhilarating Monsoon Cup Golf tournament last weekend. Set against the stunning backdrop of China Bay, the event brought together some of the finest golfers in the country, resulting in thrilling competition and outstanding performances.

Nishantha Perera golfer from Central Hills emerged as the Gents Gross Winner, showcasing his prowess on the green in a remarkable display of skill. Perera's breath-taking performance left spectators in awe of his talent, firmly cementing his place among the elite golfers of his generation. This was his maiden win in a major event in Sri Lanka. He previously had won many events in the USA and Japan. Ravi Liyanage was the runner up.

Pravina Dunuwila secured the title of Ladies Gross Eagles, demonstrating her sheer determination and precision throughout the tournament. Dunuwila's triumph not only highlighted her exceptional golfing abilities but also marked a significant milestone in her golfing journey. Roshani Sangani was the runner up.

The Monsoon Cup Golf 2023 also included other exciting categories, such as Longest Drive and Nearest to the PIN, which further showcased the participants' remarkable talent and unwavering focus. Banker, Tharanga Gunasekera back from Hong Kong on a short assignment in Colombo clinched the Longest Drive title among the Gents, displaying raw power and precision. Roshani Sangani, on the other hand, emerged as the Ladies Longest Drive champion, leaving the crowd marvelling at her exceptional strength and technique.

In the Nearest to the PIN category, Prabath Gamage exhibited an unrivalled level of accuracy, securing the title among the gents. The evergreen, Niloo Jayathikake showcased her finesse and precision, earning the coveted Nearest to the PIN award in the Ladies' competition.

In the Gents Eagles Monsoon defence challenge was won by Wing Comm Asantha Gunarathna while Capt Ananda Dissanayake was the runner up. Longest drive in the Defence challenge was won by Group Capt M C M Fernando while Nearest to the PIN was won by Col Ramindu Hennadige.

Two sensational junior golfers, Imran Nazeer and Hirusha Kahandakoralage too were recognized by Sri Lanka Air Force and Eagles Golf Link where the occasion was graced by Air Marshal Udeni Rajapakse.
