Lahiru Madushanka’s fine all-round performance (50* and 4/17) enabled Bloomfield beat Nugegoda SWC

Moors SC found themselves in the semi-finals of the SLC Major Clubs T20 tournament under extraordinary circumstances when their Group D match against BRC was abandoned without a ball bowled at the SSC grounds yesterday due to a wet pitch.

The result saw Moors SC and BRC sharing the two points, which meant that Moors SC would retain top position in the group and thus qualify for a place in the semi-finals. Moors SC finished on nine points from five matches (4 wins).

CCC with their five-wicket win over Kandy Customs SC at the same venue ended second to Moors SC with eight points (4 wins) followed by BRC with six points. Medium-pacer Chamindu Wijesinghe took three wickets to restrict Kandy Customs SC to 122-6 of which Harindu Jayasekera made 46. CCC chased down the runs in 14.4 overs with contributions of 35 and 36 from Anjala Bandara and skipper Minod Bhanuka respectively. Off-spinner Yohan Suresh took three wickets for Kandy Customs SC.

Colts assured themselves of a semi-final berth when they beat Ragama CC by eight wickets at the CCC grounds to finish on top of Group B with a clean sheet of four wins and eight points. In a nine-over shoot-out, Ragama CC invited to bat first scored 55-5 where seamer Udith Madushan and left-arm spinner Muditha Lakshan shared four wickets. Colts knocked off the runs in 3.5 overs with Yashoda Lanka scoring 41* of those runs at a rapid pace off 13 balls striking four sixes and three fours.

Lahiru Madushanka produced a superb all-round performance (50* off 32 balls, 2 fours, 4 sixes and 4/17) to help Bloomfield (162/6) beat Nugegoda SWC (105/9) by 57 runs at the same venue and finish second to Colts with six points. (ST)
