The Major Club League Plate championship enters its final weekend today with Moors SC and Negombo CC both in contention to win the title.
Moors SC’s win by 44 runs over Tamil Union projected them to the top of the table displacing Negombo CC who had to be content with only first innings points against wooden spoonist Badureliya CC in last week’s matches.
With only two points separating Moors and Negombo the matches beginning today at NCC and Colts will be a keen contest.
Moors SC will want to carry forward their form they displayed against Tamil Union by taking full points from Lankan CC at the NCC grounds. If that happens, Moors will easily win the Plate title.
For Negombo CC who trail by two points, they have a tougher task ahead of them. They not only need to get full points from Tamil Union whom they meet at Colts, but also need to rack up some bonus points as well in the process if they are to displace Moors from the top.
The third match that will have no bearing on the standings will be between bottom of the table SSC and Badureliya CC at Moratuwa. (ST)
