Myungock Jane Hong and Kathey Twenbold won the Overall Gross and Overall Net events respectively at the 2021 Rotary Metro Par 3 Golf Classic which took place at the Royal Colombo Golf Course last weekend. Nearly 200 golfers teed off in a colourful day of golf at the picture postcard RCGC course in Borella.
Top-class golfer Affli Raheem accounted for the Division A, while Manula Chandrasoma became second-best. Somnath Fernando found his lost form in the B Division encounter by winning the segment, while Capt. Navin de Silva ended runner-up. The C Division was won by Muditha Premathilake, while another top-class golfer Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana was runner-up, returning to golf after a break of nearly three months.
This tournament was organised by the Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan in partnership with Dialog Enterprise to raise funds that will be spent on children with urgent needs.
The winners were picked from the golfers who obtain the highest stableford points. The entire course was converted to a Par 54 course with each hole to be reached in three strokes. This is the fifth occasion this event was organised, after missing out the 2020 edition due to COVID-19.
This event helped out 50 children with congenital heart diseases where an operation will cost Rs. 300,000. Even the children of caddies will benefit from this scheme.
Dialog was the Main sponsor while Cinnamon Life was the Silver sponsor. The other partners include Cargills, Mercantile Investments and Finance, M. Power Capital, Widac, People’s Bank, Asia Securities, Arpico, Chatham, Victoria Villa, DRTV, Akbar Brothers, Park Street Gourmet and Favourite Group.
