NCC came up with a compelling batting performance on the opening day of the Major Clubs Emerging 3-day tournament racing away to 342-6 by the close against Bloomfield at the NCC grounds yesterday. The highlight of their innings was the opening stand of 193 between Johanne de Zilva (100 off 148 balls, 12 fours, 1 six) and Hasitha Boyagoda (91 off 143 balls, 11 fours, 2 sixes).
In the other matches Panadura SC dismissed Badureliya SC for 249 and had made a strong reply closing on 95-1, while the match between BRC and Galle is poised for a close first innings finish with BRC having scored 191 and capturing five Galle wickets for 118 by stumps on day one. – (ST)
