NDB Chess produces Overall Champion at Mercantile/Govt. Services Int’l Rating Chess Championships

NDB Bank’s Thimira Uyahewage emerged as the overall champion at the eighth Mercantile/Government Services International Rating Chess Championships 2019, scoring 6.5 points out the possible 7. 

Meanwhile, the NDB Bank “A Team” scored 13.5 points finishing in 4th place with just a 0.5 point behind the third place team.

The eighth Mercantile/Government Services International Rating Chess Championships 2019 was organised by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka, on behalf of FIDE, the World Chess Federation from 13 to 16 July. This tournament opens for all chess players working in Mercantile or Government sector.

The event was held at Sanhida Hall, Nugegoda and witnessed over 185 competitors taking part representing 38 companies. The event saw intense competition over the four days, resulting with NDB Bank’s Thimira Uyahewage emerging Champion.
