NDB becomes official team sponsor of Trinity Rugby 2020 and official sponsor for 76th Bradby Shield

NDB Bank recently joined hands with Trinity College, Kandy for the first time as the official sponsor of Trinity Rugby 2020 as well as the official sponsor for the 76th Bradby Shield. 

Trinity College, Kandy has a rich and proud history in rugby. Trinity took up rugby in 1906 and is the only school to continue playing rugby to date. 

Addressing the media at a press briefing held at the Mövenpick Hotel, Colombo, NDB Group CEO Dimantha Seneviratne said: “The sport – rugger – as well as the Bradby Shield has been such a part of the school’s [Trinity College’s] history that it is written in the very foundation of its past. Hence it is to this platform that we are proudly affiliating ourselves to.”

Trinity College, Kandy and Royal College, Colombo have been playing the sport of rugby against each other since 1920. Ever since the Shield was donated in 1945 by the then Royal Principal E.L. Bradby to the winner of the encounters on the aggregate score, the encounters have been continued throughout the years, meeting this time for the 76th year. 

While the most important Inter-School Match Trinity College played is against Royal College, Colombo for the Bradby Shield it is also the only game that has been continued, even during World War II.

Accordingly, NDB has taken the strategic initiative towards sponsoring significant sporting events such as these in order to develop the society, the nation and the sporting arena in general, while using this opportunity to encourage the camaraderie and unity that is found within sports.
