The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club (NEGC), renowned for its picturesque location and challenging course, hosted a series of thrilling tournaments in January drawing both seasoned golfers and enthusiastic spectators.
Scotte Rowe 2024
The Scotte Rowe 2024 tournament, held on the initial day, showed intense competition and remarkable skill. Imran Nazeer emerged as the winner with a score of 33, demonstrating exceptional precision and composure. Dr. Nayana Dehigama followed closely, securing the runner-up position with a score of 32, highlighting the close contest between the top players.
NEGC Texas Scramble
On day 2 saw NEGC hosted the Texas Scramble, a team-based event that emphasised strategy and coordination. The winning team comprised Anura Wimalarathne, Anura Fernando, and Luxman Sumathipala, who achieved an impressive nett score of 23. Their collaborative effort and strategic play were pivotal in securing their victory.
Ogilvy Challenge Trophy 2024
The Ogilvy Challenge Trophy, held on day 3 was reduced to 9 holes due to rain in the Hill Country. Dr. Nayana Dehigama successfully defended his title, claiming victory with a score of 20. His consistent performance showed his dominance in the tournament playing after a lapse of more than 9 months in NEGC. Anura Balasooriya was the runner-up with a score of 17.
Longest Drive, awarded to Imran Nazeer, and the Nearest to the Pin, secured by Chathuranga Perera. These achievements highlighted the diverse talents of the participants and added to the excitement of the event.
The January 2025 events at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club were a celebration of golfing excellence, with participants delivering outstanding performances across all categories. The Club continues to be a hub for golf enthusiasts, fostering competitive spirit and camaraderie among its members. All three events were followed by a CSR Project organised by the NEGC Commission which saw 200 tree saplings planted plus a plastic waste management system was initiated by the Club.
