The NSL 50-over final last year between Dambulla who emerged champions and Jaffna
The National Super League 4-day tournament will take a break from this week to make room for the National Super League 50-over cricket tournament which commences today at two venues Pallekele and Dambulla.
The NSL 50-over has been brought forward to provide Sri Lanka’s white ball cricketers especially those playing in the ODIs to gain match practice as well as for those aspiring to catch the selectors’ eyes ahead of the three-match ODI series in Bangladesh next month.
The matches will be of great consequence for players in the national team recovering from injuries to make a comeback and prove their match fitness before the team for the ODIs against Bangladesh is picked. Defending champions Dambulla have a free day but runner-up Jaffna takes on Colombo at the Rangiri Dambulla Cricket Stadium, while the other match is between Galle and Kandy at the Pallekele Cricket Stadium.
There will be five days of matches and the top two teams that finish in the league standings will qualify to play in the final on 9 March at the R. Premadasa Stadium which will be a day-night game. All the other matches will be day games. – (ST)
