Lackadaisical attitude on the part of the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation officials saw the Federation having to spend for air tickets twice to send the national women’s team to Thailand.
The team of players and support staff comprising 17 individuals were due to leave on Friday to Thailand to take part in the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup, but due to the lackadaisical attitude of the officials they arrived late at the airport and missed the flight.
The national body which is struggling to make ends meet had to re-purchase the tickets to send the team. The delay resulted in Sri Lanka having little time to acclimatize themselves to the conditions in Thailand.
Not surprisingly they lost their first two games to Kazakhstan 66-34 and to Jordan 82-41. Their final game is against hosts Thailand today.
