The 48th National Games kicked off last weekend in Mahiyanganaya, with the marathon, walking and cycling races witnessing a participation of top athletes from around the country.
Having been a part of Sri Lanka’s biggest marathons for over 35 years, Nestlé Nestomalt was proud to jointly organise the games this year with the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Results of the marathon event:
Marathon (men):
1st place - T.W. Rathnapala (time 2.25.55)
2nd place - K. Shanmugeswaran (2.26.20)
3rd place - S.R.G. Amila Sanath Kumara (2.27.11)
Marathon (women):
1st place - H.M.W.G.W.M. Herath (2.55.14)
2nd place - W.M. Nimesha Nidarshi (3.01.52)
3rd place - H.W.C. Damayanthi (3.14.28)
The winners of the marathon were awarded cash prizes, with first-place receiving Rs. 50,000, second place Rs. 40,000 and third place Rs. 30,000. Furthermore, the athletes who finished among the top 10 were also awarded special cash prizes.
