Former Kingswood, Kandy SC, Navy SC, and national player plus Police SC and Joes Head Coach Nilfer Ibrahim is tipped to take over the role of Head Coach for the Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy 2024 which will take place in Kathmandu, Nepal on 4 and 5 October.

The Sri Lankan sevens men’s pool has already been selected by Sudath Sampath and his selection committee, with 40 players being short-listed. A majority of them will feature in the Mercantile Rugby Sevens, which will be worked off at the end of this month at the CR & FC Grounds.

In a related development, former national player and Zahira Head Coach Shamly Nawas is tipped to take over the women’s outfit, which will lock horns in Nepal, while the boys’ Under-18 playing in Johor Bahru in Malaysia during 28 and 29 September is likely to see Rajiv Perera taking over the Head Coach role.

All these appointments subject to approval are on a volunteer basis. If the Sri Lanka men’s and women’s outfits end on top in Nepal, they will secure a berth at the Asia Sevens third leg in Thailand, which will take place during the month of November 2024.
